Do you have too much stuff?

It’s amazing how everything looks so much neater, fresher and more modern when you declutter each room. Quite often our homes are bursting at the seams with too much stuff, but we get used to seeing it.

Think about all of the things you’ve collected over the years, whether it’s kids’ toys, board games, antiques, records, books, clothes, shoes, furniture, general bric-a-brac. We collect it all without really noticing until it becomes part of the furniture. But how much of it do you really use?

One of the best ways to give your home or a room a makeover, is to remove any unnecessary items. So it’s time to have a good sort out!

No need to throw anything away if you don’t want to!

And if you don’t want to get rid of these items you’ve collected, you don’t have to throw it away, you don’t even have to move that clutter from one room to the next where it will take up more space, why not put it into storage?!

Once decluttered your home will instantly be transformed into the wonderful place you always imagined and dreamed of, and should become:

  • Cleaner and tidier
  • More minimal and modern
  • Easier to live in
  • Easier to decorate
  • No need for expensive built-in storage

And you’ll have better organised possessions too! You’ll be able to find everything much more easily.

Not sure where to start?

Feeling like this a rather big job to take on? Don’t worry, all you have to do is take it one step at a time.

In an ideal world, we would have a place for everything, but if you’re looking to start soon, it’s best to just dive in! We’ve put together some tips for you below that should help you make a noticeable difference.

1. Start at the bottom:

Clearing clutter from the floor is a good start – your largest flat surface! Keeping flat surfaces clear in general. Start with what you can see and delve into drawers and cupboards later.

2. Remove largest things first:

Sometimes, a room has just one too many pieces of furniture and this can make the area look cluttered. The larger the furniture, the more valuable space it takes up, so try to identify furniture that can be put into storage. This will help to give the room a much less cluttered appearance, much quicker.

3. Be ruthless:

We know this is much easier said than done! But if it doesn’t bring you joy, or hasn’t been used or admired in more than 12 months, do you really need to hold onto it or have it in your home permanently? Putting something into storage is a great way to see if you miss something once it’s gone, before getting rid of it for good.
