Cleaning Our Self Storage Facility

Here at Louth Self Storage, based in Manby, we often blog about the importance of being tidy, spring cleaning, putting things away and making space by putting our less used items into self storage.

Well, whilst things are relatively quiet between seasons, we have taken advantage of this great opportunity to do as we say, practice what we preach, and have a big tidy up at our self storage facility. Normally we are pretty good at keeping things tidy, but every now and then we do have to stop what we’re doing and concentrate on some of the deeper housekeeping duties.

Never has there been a better time to ensure our hygiene is at the highest it can possibly be. Not only do we want to look like the high level of quality we provide, but we want to keep our staff and customers happy and healthy too.

Our cleaning routine:

So, we are not just ‘talking the talk’, we are ‘walking the walk’, and that means paying meticulous attention to the cleanliness of the whole site. After sweeping up (which we do almost constantly!), one of the biggest jobs is cleaning all the external self storage units. None of our containers are more than a few years old so they are in tip-top condition, but surprisingly it only takes a few months before the dirt and grime begins to collect, and then they seem to grow a thin film of algae, which if you don’t wash off, becomes unsightly and after a while can be quite difficult to remove.

So once or twice a year, we dig out the pressure washer and give them all a good blasting. This time, however, as we had more time than usual, we used a hand scourer, some special algae-eating solution, and plenty of elbow grease to make sure that even the more stubborn deposits have all been removed. You can see from the photo the difference it makes. We’re very happy with it, and it does make a huge difference as you drive in.

There is something really satisfying once all the hard work is done, and you can see the fruits of your labour.  Sparkling containers, looking like new.

Even more satisfying, is knowing that you don’t have to do it again for another 6 months.

What will you do with your ‘staying at home’ time?

A lot of you may still have some extra time on your hands, so why not take this opportunity to get ahead with all those jobs you’ve been putting off because you’ve been too busy.

It’s too easy to leave those jobs that you really don’t want to do. You know they have to be done, but… no more excuses! Clearing out the shed, sorting the loft, valeting the car, throwing the out-of-date stuff from the kitchen cabinets, etc. You won’t get a better time than now. The majority of us are still ‘staying home’ as much as possible and heeding the government’s advice, but how many of us are seeing this as the chance to catch up on our never-ending list of things to do?

Keeping busy makes the time go quicker, keeps our brains active and, in a lot of cases, can keep you fit too. It hasn’t all got to be done today. Pace yourself and do as little or as much as you feel like doing.  Let the weather determine whether you are working indoors or outside.  Sorting the weeds from the flowers on nice days and clearing that drawer in the kitchen. Everybody has one!

There is no need to be bored, there is always something to be done if you look hard enough, and quite often you don’t even have to look too hard!

If you’re looking to get organised and clear out your space, our secure self-storage facility offers a range of units in varying sizes, from our large outdoor containers to small self storage units and lockers. Situated in Manby Park, we are in close approximation to Louth, Horncastle, Alford Mablethorpe, Grimsby and all the small villages in between.
